Dark haunted
When the darkness stirs and the owl awakes
And the Wolf howls lone on distant hills.
Eyes search long for a little flame
A search for warmth in a bone deep chill.
When the devil speaks in a father’s voice
And enfolds a soul with great black wings.
Of a petrified tree in an ancient keep
A child once mute now stands and sings.
When the hands that hung the stars in the sky
Are the hands that now reach out to kill.
The body speaks when the mind cannot
It screams a silence no light can fill.
Can light shine forth; drive darkness out
Where it’s soaked too deep beneath the skin?
Or will evil destroy what the light once had
And a soul’s death becomes a dark win?
